The Reidsville Family YMCA has many different ways that you can help us give opportunities to others in our community. You can help by volunteering in any of our department, helping with our We Build People Campaign and Bright Beginnings, as well as volunteering to be a sports coach.

2010 We Build People Campaign
Helping People Who Need the YMCA
Our goal is to turn no one away from YMCA programs or services due to an inability to pay. This is made possible by We Build People, the annual charitable-giving program of the YMCA of Greensboro.
The YMCA, as well as those recipients who benefit from your assistance, would like to thank you for helping to make a difference in your neighbors’ lives. Learn more about We Build People in the 2010 WBP Brochure:

ALTHOUGH THE HISTORY OF THE YMCA can be told in moments, it continues to be lived in the lifetimes of thousands each day. It began in London, England - back in 1844 - in dedication to a mission and values that have since caused YMCAs to be formed all over the world. The Greensboro YMCA will continue to grow in the same spirit today and far into the future through the dedication of our staff and the generosity of our friends.
The Heritage Society is a special group of friends who believe in the purpose and values of the YMCA. We invite you to consider becoming a member by including the YMCA Endowment Fund in your estate plan through a bequest, life insurance, trust, or outright gift. A gift to the Endowment Fund is an investment in the guiding beliefs of the YMCA.
We'll be pleased to help you create an endowment and achieve timeless recognition for yourself or a loved one. Through a deliberate and thoughtful process, YMCA professionals will work with you and/or your advisors to create a giving opportunity that speaks to you and your family's unique desires. To inquire about donating, please contact Nancy Calkins, Vice President of Financial Development, (336) 854-8413 x 107 or email nancy.calkins@ymcagreensboro.org. She will be pleased to work with you in any way you find convenient.

Give A "Bright Beginning" for the New School Year
The YMCA Bright Beginnings program helps approximately 500 children with new school clothes, supplies, and a book bag to help children in-need start the year with confidence for success. Volunteer opportunities include shopping with children, making a cash donation to support the shopping trips, and donations of basic school supplies and new book bags. Older teens may volunteer with their parent to help shop with a child. Families with children may volunteer to help stuff book bags with school supplies.
Individuals or companies that wish to collect basic school supplies or book bags are asked to deliver them by August 1 to the Y of your choice (Bryan Y, Hayes-Taylor Y both in downtown Greensboro, Spears Y on Horse Pen Creek Road in Greensboro, Ragsdale YMCA in Jamestown, Stoney Creek YMCA in Whitsett, or Reidsville YMCA). Volunteers, including families, are invited to help stuff book bags with supplies and can make arrangements with the Y of their choice. Individuals, church or employee groups, and other organizations may also volunteer to collect supplies or shop with children. An organization can request a special trip and shop as a team with a group of Y children.($3,750 serves a group of 25 kids).

If you would like to donate or become a volunteer shopping buddy, contact your YMCA branch coordinator, Melissa Ragland, for more information.
The YMCA would like to thank all our donors and volunteers who participated in the 2009 Bright Beginnings program. Without your help and support, we would not have been able to take more than 400 children shopping for school clothes and supplies. Thank you again!

The Reidsville Y has three great opportunities for you to be a volunteer!
Please click HERE to download our Volunteer Application.
Sport Coach
If you would be interested in volunteering as a youth sports coach, please fill out a volunteer application and return it to the Reidsville Family YMCA. Once the application is reviewed by one of our sports' staff you will contacted for information regarding the league. Sports that are available are basketball and soccer. Coaching would take about 4 hours a week. Teams would have an one hour practice and a game that usually lasts about an other hour. Good communication skills are a must. We also perform Criminal Background Checks on all of our volunteer coaches.
We Build People Campaign
The We Build People Campaign is our annual fund raiser for our financial assistance program. The Reidsville Family YMCA does not turn anyone away due to financial reasons. We due this through the We Build People Campaign. Last year alone the Reidsville Family YMCA gave over 1,033 individual scholarships. If you would like to volunteer in our fund raiser, please contact Kevin Bottomley by phone 336-342-3307 or by email.
Bright Beginnings
The purpose of YMCA Bright Beginnings is to outfit children with confidence and the tools they need to start the school year with success. Bright Beginnings has helped deserving children with needed school supplies and new clothes for 11 years. We plan to help more than 50 children who are referred to the Y association by local schools, churches, and social service agencies. The Y raises money and school supplies, then recruits volunteers and deserving children.
